User:KovachevBot for bot status edit

Nomination: I hereby request the Bot flag for User:KovachevBot for the following purposes:

Automatically removing uses of deprecated yomi template from {{ja-pron}}. See Wiktionary:Beer parlour/2023/May#Japanese – bot script to remove yomi from Template:ja-pron for initial proposal and discussion; test edits include:
Specifically, we removed that parameter from the template, which is now present in a lot of instances of the template but isn't doing anything, so I am hoping to remove it so that new editors are not confused by the redundancy, among other points.
Originally, the idea was proposed by @Eirikr at Template talk:ja-pron, which this bot script implements now.

  1.   Support I reviewed the user's code and it looks good. He responded positively to my suggestions and incorporated a backup plan so the old contents of all the changed pages can be restored if something goes wrong. Benwing2 (talk) 20:38, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose edit

  1.   Oppose ɶLerman (talk) 19:04, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Care to explain why? Vininn126 (talk) 19:18, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If I may comment, there may be a good reason to oppose running a bot for this kind of task, which is that if there is whatsoever any chance of a malfunction or harmful edit, then it is arguably not worth the risk, considering there is no user-visible change either way. So, not running the bot would forego all the risks associated whilst also not changing anything user-side. Now, there are many checks in place to ensure this won't happen, and there's no theoretical way for problems to arise — the script is really simple as it is — but still. The concern is there. Kiril kovachev (talk) 11:30, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry. My vote won't solve anything anyway. ɶLerman (talk) 22:40, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ɶLerman What is your actual reason for opposing? Is it any of this paragraph I wrote here? Kiril kovachev (talk) 23:03, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Kiril kovachev: I don't have any actual reason. I just voted. ɶLerman (talk) 23:44, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is User:Gnosandes, known to be a problematic editor in general. Benwing2 (talk) 05:33, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Benwing2: Yes, yes, when you don't like someone, you always give them some kind of label. ɶLerman (talk) 08:20, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The issue here is that you're opposing something relatively non-controversial without giving any sort of reason. That's what I'm labeling as problematic. The opposition is fine but it needs to be well-founded, not just random. Benwing2 (talk) 19:59, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So I didn't argue, I just voted. Opposition may not always be founded. ɶLerman (talk) 09:45, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ɶLerman You could have pointed out any single concern, however minor. Instead, you chose to speak in an uncooperative tone throughout this whole thread. Daniel.z.tg (talk) 23:59, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I can decide for myself what to do, thanks for the advice. ɶLerman (talk) 09:48, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decision edit

Passes 8-1-0. @Chuck Entz, Surjection I think we need a bureaucrat to turn on the bot flag for User:KovachevBot. Benwing2 (talk) 03:27, 21 June 2023 (UTC)   Done and unblocked. Chuck Entz (talk) 05:08, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you all very much for your warm reception and approval! I'll see that it gets deployed in the next few days now. Kiril kovachev (talk) 09:52, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
