From Ottoman Turkish بقله (baḳla, “a single specimen or species of any succulent plant, broad bean, a link of a chain”), from Arabic بَقْلة (baqla, “grain of various plants”), which was derived from Arabic بَقْل (baql, “all kinds of herbaceous plant or vegetable”),[1] combined with the suffixes -gil (denoting family) and -ler (denoting plurality) which is an eroded form of the suffixes -ın + -ki + -ler.[2]

- (botany, collective) A large and agriculturally important family of flowering plants, commonly known as the legume, pea, or bean family, or the fruits or seeds of such plants used for human consumption, such as beans, broad beans, chickpeas, soybeans, lentils, peas etc.
