- (military) battalion: an army unit having two or more companies, etc. and a headquarters. Traditionally forming part of a regiment.
Usage notes edit
The standard spelling for battalion is batalion in both Standard Indonesian and Standard Malay. However, the official military spelling is batalyon in Indonesia which showed Dutch spelling influence (bataljon), thus it is abbreviated as yon, such as in yonif.
