From Old Portuguese dragon (dragon), from Latin dracōnem, accusative of dragon, from Ancient Greek δράκων (drákōn, dragon, serpent). Cognate with Galician dragón, Spanish dragón, Catalan drac, Occitan drac, French dragon, Italian dragone, Romanian drac and English drake.
