Etymology

edit

feltétel +‎ -ez

Pronunciation

edit
  • IPA(key): [ˈfɛlteːtɛlɛz]
  • Hyphenation: fel‧té‧te‧lez
  • Rhymes: -ɛz

Verb

edit

feltételez

  1. (transitive) to suppose, assume
    Synonyms: feltesz, gondol
  2. (transitive) to postulate, posit
Synonyms: feltesz, posztulál, alapul vesz, alapul tekint
  3. (transitive) to presuppose
    Synonym: előfeltételez

Usage notes

edit

Despite the fact that this word is etymologically feltétel +‎ -ez and not fel- +‎ tételez, fel is commonly split to create forms like tételezzük fel (let’s suppose). Splitting the verb is incorrect only in the sense “to presuppose, to be dependent on”.[1]
