FinnishEdit

EtymologyEdit

From Proto-Finnic *hepoinen, roughly equivalent to hepo +‎ -inen. The weak grade v originates from Southwestern dialects, while the expected strong-grade heponen is only found in dialects, mainly in the southeast. Compare cognates in other Finnic languages such as Estonian hobune, Karelian hepoine.

PronunciationEdit

  • IPA(key): /ˈheʋonen/, [ˈhe̞ʋo̞ne̞n]
  • Rhymes: -eʋonen
  • Syllabification: he‧vo‧nen
