Etymology

Cognate with Latvian pràts (mind, intellect), Old Prussian prātin (counsel).[1] Plausibly related to Proto-Germanic *frōdaz (wise, cautious), Latin pretium (price), from Proto-Indo-European *pret- (to understand, interpret).[2] Cf. pràsti (to acquire a habit, understand), and see Latvian prast for more.
