Sino-Vietnamese word from 生育, composed of (to bear; to give birth) and (to raise; to bring up). The word properly means "to birth and raise", but the dục part, as in giáo dục (to educate) or dưỡng dục (to raise), is probably confused with (, lust), as in tình dục (sex).
