From Proto-Indo-European *steh₂- (to stand). Cognate with Latvian statît (to place), Old Prussian preistattinnimai; also related to Ancient Greek στατός (statós, standing), Latin status.[1]

  1. (transitive) to erect, place upright
    statyti stulpąto erect a pole
  2. (transitive) to put, place, position
    statyti žvakę ant staloto place a candle on a table
  3. (transitive) to construct, build
