Etymology 1

From Proto-Vietic *p-ləh, from Proto-Mon-Khmer. Cognate with Bulo Stieng pləːh. This is the Central-Southern form, now widely used in written Vietnamese. Doublet of giở in modern written Vietnamese.

The Northern Middle Vietnamese blở is attested in de Rhodes (1651).
