editFrom a conflation of two verbs:
- Old Polish tolić, from Proto-Slavic *toliti (“to calm, to soothe”), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *talīˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)tolH-eye-ti, from *(s)telH-;
- Old Polish *tulić, from Proto-Slavic *tuliti (“to coil, to bring closer, to press against”), from *tulъ.
