From Proto-Albanian *wesi, from earlier *ōusi, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ṓws- and dual ending *-ih₁. Cognate with Lithuanian ausìs (id), Ancient Greek οὖς (oûs), Latin auris.

Etymology 3 edit

Uncertain. Possibly akin to Lithuanian vaĩsius (fruit), alternatively from Proto-Indo-European *wéyh₁ō (vine) or perhaps even the same as for the sense ear.[1] By some identified as the source of Ancient Greek βαίεσσα (baíessa, bunch of grapes).[2]
