Inherited from Byzantine Greek ξεφεύγω (xepheúgō), from εξεφεύγω (exepheúgō), from Ancient Greek ἐκφεύγω (ekpheúgō). By surface analysis, ξε- (xe-) +‎ φεύγω (févgo).[1]
