Etymology edit

Substantivized form of Proto-Slavic *gręzьnъ (muddy, sludgy) or from *gręzenь. Akin to Ukrainian грузь (hruzʹ, swamp), Polish grąz (bog, mire).

Nowadays mainly attested in toponyms.
