Unclear. Brückner finds a parallel in Sanskrit क्षीयते (kṣīyate, diminish). However, derivation from Proto-Indo-European *dʰgʷʰey- is dismissed by Vasmer as unreliable.

    If they slander you behind your back, they simply know that you're an angel... and want to cut your wings.
