The original meaning is “pavilion, tent”, borrowed from Iranian. Compare Middle Persian [script needed] (hwln' /⁠xvaran⁠/, banquet-hall, tabernacle), 𐫟𐫇𐫡𐫗 (xwrn /⁠xvaran⁠/, banquet).
