Etymology edit
Of uncertain origin.
It is often assumed that the word is formed with Proto-Indo-European *-o-bʰor- (“bearing, carrying, having”), whence -աւոր (-awor). For the semantics compare բարք (barkʿ). The first component has been identified with Proto-Indo-European *ḱó- (“beside, near, by, with”)[1][2] or *h₁uk- (“to learn, get accustomed to”)[3][4] (whence Old Armenian ուսանիմ (usanim)).
Has also been considered a borrowing from an unattested Zan cognate of Georgian სწავლა (sc̣avla, “to learn, study”).[5][6][7][8]
