Borrowed from Persian سمید (semid, semolina) or Arabic سَمِيد (samīd, semolina), both from Aramaic סְמִידָא (səmīḏā), from Akkadian 𒆠𒅔𒆠𒅔𒄯𒄯 (/⁠samīdu⁠/, a type of fine groats, coarse flour, semolina).
