  1. (transitive, intransitive) to precede, to pass, to outgo, to slip, to shed, to strip [+ مِن (object)]
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 20:45:
      قَالَا رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا نَخَافُ أَن يَفْرُطَ عَلَيْنَا أَوْ أَن يَطْغَىٰ
      qālā rabbanā ʔinnanā naḵāfu ʔan yafruṭa ʕalaynā ʔaw ʔan yaṭḡā
      They said: Our Lord, indeed we fear that they hasten against us or transgress!
