Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀧𑀼𑀘𑁆𑀙𑀤𑀺 (pucchadi), from Sanskrit पृच्छति (pṛccháti), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pr̥šćáti, from Proto-Indo-European *pr̥sḱéti. Cognate with Gujarati પૂછવું (pūchvũ), Marathi पुसणे (pusṇe), Kalasha phúčik, Romani pućhel, Persian پرسیدن (porsīdan), German forschen.
