Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yaglïk (kerchief, headscarf); cognate with Azerbaijani yaylıq, Bashkir яулыҡ (yawlıq), Chuvash ҫулӑк (śulăk), Kazakh жаулық (jaulyq) and Kyrgyz жоолук (jooluk).
