editFrom Proto-Indo-Aryan *d(ʰ)wā́r, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰwā́r, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰwṓr. Cognate with Latin foris, Ancient Greek θύρα (thúra), Old English duru, dor (whence English door).
