Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀥𑀁𑀲𑀤𑀺 (dhaṃsadi), 𑀥𑀲𑀤𑀺 (dhasadi), from Sanskrit ध्वंसति (dhváṁsati). Cognate with Punjabi ਢਹਿਣਾ (ḍhahiṇā) / ڈھہنا (ḍhahiṇā, to fall), Nepali धस्नु (dhasnu, to pierce), Gujarati ધસવું (dhasvũ, to collapse), Bengali ধসা (dhośa, to collapse).
