Inherited from Proto-Southwestern Tai *ɡamᴬ⁴ (bite (n.); mouthful), from Proto-Tai *ɡamᴬ (bite (n.); speech).[1] Cognate with Ahom 𑜁𑜪𑜨 (khäam), Northern Thai ᨣᩤᩴ, Lao ຄຳ (kham), ᦅᧄ (kam), Tai Dam ꪁꪾ, Tày cằm, Zhuang gaemz, Zuojiang Zhuang kaemz.
