Etymology

From ลิข (lík, “writing”) +‎ สิทธิ์ (sìt, “right”); perhaps calque of English copyright.

Probably used officially for the first time on 16 June 1931, when the พระราชบัญญัติคุ้มครองวรรณกรรมและศิลปกรรม พุทธศักราช ๒๔๗๔ (Literary Works and Artistic Works Protection Act, 2474 Buddhist Era) was enacted. Formerly known as กรรมสิทธิ์ผู้แต่งหนังสือ.
