Doublet of ศาสตร (art; science; scripture), from which ศาสตราจารย์ (sàat-dtraa-jaan, professor) is derived.

Cognate with Khmer សាស្ត្រ (sastrâ), Lao ສາດ (sāt), Pali sattha.
