Etymology edit

Akin to Byzantine Greek κάττα (kátta). According to Ačaṙean, from Armenian կատու (katu, cat).[1]

In contrast, according to Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani, კატა (ḳaṭa) is a borrowing from European ("ფრანგული (pranguli)") languages, a synonym of Georgian ციცა (cica).[2]
