From Middle Georgian ხეჩაკალი (xečaḳali), from Old Armenian *խեչակալ (*xečʻakal), from խէչ (xēčʻ, prop, stay, support (for plants)) +‎ -ա- (-a-) +‎ -կալ (-kal, holder).
