Etymology edit

From Old Georgian ჴიდი (qidi), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *qid- (bridge), probably from Proto-Kartvelian *qed-. Cognate with Mingrelian ხინჯი (xinǯi) and Laz ხინჯი (xinci). See Old Georgian for more. The similarity with Ossetian хид (xid) and Hungarian híd is accidental.
