Alternative spelling
櫻木 (kyūjitai)

Etymology edit

Compound of (sakura, cherry, cherry tree) +‎ (ki, tree).[1][2][3] The ki changes to gi as an instance of rendaku (連濁)..

The term (sakura) on its own is ambiguous, and could be used to mean either the tree or the blossom. The addition of (ki, tree) makes this distinction clear.
