EtymologyEdit

/kaeu/ > /kayoː/. Originally it meant the planet Mars[1]. A calque of Latin dies Martis and its descendants, reinterpreting the day as having been named after the planet Mars (instead of the Roman god). Compare 火星(kasei, Mars (planet)).
