From (はな) (hana) + () (haki, (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb () (haku).) + (びょう) (byō). An invention of Matsuda Naoko (松田奈緒子) for her manga Hanahaki Otome (『花吐き乙女』).
