Etymology

edit

Inherited from Sanskrit संवर्तयति (saṃvartayati, to cause to turn; to clench, wrap up), from the root संवृत् (saṃvṛt), from सं- (saṃ-) +‎ वृत् (vṛt).[1]

Compare the related 𑀲𑀁𑀯𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀝 (saṃvuṭṭa), 𑀲𑀁𑀯𑀼𑀢𑁆𑀢 (saṃvutta), from Sanskrit संवृत्त (saṃvṛtta, approached; happened).[2] Descendants may be influenced by Sanskrit संवेष्टयति (saṃveṣṭayati, to wrap up, wind around).
