From Middle High German ougenblick (quick glance), corresponding to Auge (eye) +‎ -n- +‎ Blick (glance). Cognate to Yiddish אויגנבליק(oygnblik), Luxembourgish Abléck, Dutch ogenblik, Danish øjeblik, Swedish ögonblick, Norwegian øyeblikk, Icelandic augnablik. Compare English eyeblink.
