All Devanagari-script entries in Category:Translingual syllables

All of these were added by User:Thecurran en masse a while ago. The discussion at Wiktionary:Beer_parlour/2017/August#घॣ (ghl̥̄) and other Devanagari "Translingual" consonant + vowel combinations covers pretty much all the reasons not to have these misleading entries. User:Wyang summed it up nicely:

  1. That the inclusion of these 'Translingual syllables' is outside the scope of Wiktionary and unjustified ― I have illustrated using many examples in the replies above;
  2. That the headings of 'Syllable' are a misnomer ― they are 'cursor-separatable units of Devanagari';
  3. That it is combinatorially and logistically unfeasible to include all Sanskrit syllables, or all Devanagari units separated by the mouse cursor (or an unfamiliar person) that a user may search in Google;
  4. That the pronunciation on the page is misinformation ― it does not represent 'Translingual pronunciation of the sequence of characters in the title';
  5. That the alternative forms are an abuse of the {{pi-alt}} and generates erroneous content on the pages.

Thecurran did request "Please help me to hone it or to consolidate it instead of just deleting it en masse." They could be moved to a single appendix or his userspace. —Aryaman (मुझसे बात करो) 19:26, 1 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Delete; the effort of consolidating it for the creator and moving it to userspace seems too high to be justified. Note: In the BP discussion, Wyang, Chuck Entz, and Octahedron80 also expressed clear support for deletion. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 22:42, 1 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Delete. @Thecurran: In order to "decipher" individual parts of ligatures or conjuncts in scripts, such as Devanagari and other abugida alphabets and not only abugida, simple tools can be used, such as SC UniPad, which is available for free (I am not advertising, you can use other tools of your choice). It can decompose ligatures and conjuncts, Korean hangeul, etc., so that one can see, what is a group of characters made of. Devanagari is not the easiest script but I don't see the value in showing all possible combinations of all possible conjuncts. So, when I paste घॣ (ghḹ) into the editor window, I can see that it's made of characters (gha) and . Alternatively, the template {{xlit}} can be used, as I demonstrated with {{xlit|sa|घॣ}}. The use of third party tools beyond the scope of this dictionary, though. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 06:32, 2 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
