User:शब्दशोधक blanked the page with the message "Deleted wrong word completely. अगार is no word, आगार is the right word." DTLHS (talk) 02:38, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

- To repeat what I said at RFD: Monier Monier-Williams gives both अगार (agāra) [1] and आगार (āgāra) [2] for Sanskrit. This RFV seems to be for Pali, though, and the Pali Text Society's Pali-English Dictionary lists only agāra as the "real" form, and āgāra just says to see the entry for agāra. At that entry we read: "Owing to freq. occurrence of agāra at the end of cpds. of which the first word ends in a, we have a dozen quite familiar words ending apparently in āgāra. This form has been considered therefore as a proper doublet of agāra. This however is wrong. The long ā is simply a contraction of the short a at the end of the first part of the cpd. with the short a at the beginning of agāra." Of course we aren't obliged to blindly follow a 100-year-old dictionary, but there does seem to be good reason to believe that "अगार is no word, आगार is the right word" is an incorrect claim. —Mahāgaja · talk 07:38, 22 August 2020 (UTC)

No word such as अगार (agāra) exists in Sanskrit. The word meaning house or apartment is आगार (āgāra), not to be mistaken with अगार. Therefore I feel that this entry should be deleted immediately.

- @शब्दशोधक: If you doubt the existence of a word, you should take it to RFV, not RFD. In this case, however Monier Monier-Williams does in fact give both अगार (agāra) [3] and आगार (āgāra) [4]. —Mahāgaja · talk 08:08, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

- If you search अगार in that database, it returns results not only from Monier Williams' dictionary but also a few others. It was a word, along with आगार. -- Bhagadatta (talk) 15:43, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
