Welcome edit

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary!

Admin status edit

Hi, Vantharith. I can nominate you for admin status here, but I think you should first make some edits so that the other admins can evaluate your work. If you will first make 50 edits or more (new entries, correcting old entries, improving old entries, etc.), then I can nominate you. —Stephen (Talk) 05:35, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

So far, I've made almost 300 edits in Khmer Wiktionary - currently, there's no SysOp over there. For English version - I don't think I need a sysop status for now. Cos I'm still learning as an ordinary registered user. But will let you know once I feel I'm ready to be a sysop in the English Wiktionary - so then I will be able to contribute even in greater capacity in Khmer Wiktionary. Thank you. --វ័ណថារិទ្ធ (Vantharith) 12:21, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oh, did you mean admin status on Khmer Wikipedia? For that, see w:Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship. See also km:w:ពិសេស:បញ្ជីឈ្មោះអ្នកប្រើប្រាស់/sysop for a list of Khmer admins, and km:w:វិគីភីឌា:អ្នកអភិបាល. —Stephen (Talk) 12:31, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
No - I meant the Khmer Wiktionary, NOT Wikipedia. I am already one of the sysop member in Khmer Wikipedia. But there is no sysop for Khmer Wiktionary.--វ័ណថារិទ្ធ (Vantharith) 12:37, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oh, now I see. You might go to km:ពិសេស:GlobalUsers/sysadmin and contact User:ArielGlenn. Also, I think that User talk:Prince Kassad may know something about applying for admin status on Khmer Wiktionary. —Stephen (Talk) 13:09, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Template:km-adj‎ edit

I can see that you were trying to copy over from {{en-adj}}, however this isn't really appropriate as Khmer and English are very different; you removed the script support and the bit where the transliteration can go. Mglovesfun (talk) 20:39, 6 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for dropping by and for your comment! Yes, you're right - I was figuring out for some long time - but still can't make it properly. Anyway, will be more careful next time. ^^ Thanks, --វ័ណថារិទ្ធ (Vantharith) 17:03, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Khmer Wikt edit

Hi, Vantharith. I am surprised that you had trouble getting adminship at Khmer Wikt. What happened about it, what was the reason for denying? Did you contact ArielGlenn? He is Greek but he speaks good English. As soon as I have some time, I will nominate you for admin. —Stephen (Talk) 02:24, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi Stephen! I didn't contact anyone. I was seeking help from IRC chatroom and asked question on how to request for adminship. I got some advices - so first I made a project page for the Admin Request and wrote my name there for local election. Then, I applied on the meta site. But my case was rejected. I think, maybe it's not yet time. But will wait to hear good news from you if I can be an admin for EN project here. ^^ Regards,--វ័ណថារិទ្ធ (Vantharith) 02:44, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Where on the meta site? It sounds to me like there was a misunderstanding of some kind. It is always the right time, and it is important to have an admin there. One point: I think you should have the local election at km:Wiktionary:ផតថលសហគមន៍, or at least put an announcement at km:Wiktionary:ផតថលសហគមន៍ that tells where the election is located. But there are numerous wikis that suffer from low activity, and this makes a problem for elections. I am an admin on the Navajo Wikipedia. When we have elections, we can get only 2 votes. But it is a known problem, so it is enough. I am re-elected every 6 months, always with only 2 votes. —Stephen (Talk) 04:36, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Here you are, the link to meta - http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Steward_requests/Permissions&oldid=2426198#.E1.9E.9C.E1.9F.90.E1.9E.8E.E1.9E.90.E1.9E.B6.E1.9E.9A.E1.9E.B7.E1.9E.91.E1.9F.92.E1.9E.92.40kmwiktionary - it's been removed already. I did include everything and mentioned about no admin and low activity... Ok, here's the link to local election - http://km.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:សុំជាអ្នកគ្រប់គ្រង You can have a try if you can help me fighting this case ^^ Wait to hear good news from you! Thanks,--វ័ណថារិទ្ធ (Vantharith) 15:00, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
It was a shortsighted decision! I think you should place the election page again, at km:Wiktionary:ផតថលសហគមន៍, indicating the start-date and the stop-date (2 weeks later). When the election starts, tell me and I will vote for you. If you know anyone on the Khmer Wikipedia, they can come and vote for you as well. Anyone can vote, it does not matter if they are contributors at the Khmer Wikt or not.
After 2 weeks, we add up the votes for and against at the bottom and write down the decision of the vote (បានអនុម័ត). You should get at least 3 votes for, 0 against, 0 abstaining. That should be a consensus, but if you can get anyone to come and vote from Khmer Wikipedia, it will be much better. —Stephen (Talk) 15:49, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Vantharith. I see at km:Wiktionary:សុំជាអ្នកគ្រប់គ្រង that you now have 5 votes. It seems to me that this should be enough. I think you should apply again at http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Steward_requests/Permissions&oldid=2426198#.E1.9E.9C.E1.9F.90.E1.9E.8E.E1.9E.90.E1.9E.B6.E1.9E.9A.E1.9E.B7.E1.9E.91.E1.9F.92.E1.9E.92.40kmwiktionary. —Stephen (Talk) 22:56, 17 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hi Stephen. Thanks for your note. Just a few Questions - 1) do i need to conclude the consensus on kmwikt page (5 voices vs. 0)? 2) can i edit the old (closed) request or have to create new one? Thanks,--វ័ណថារិទ្ធ (Vantharith) 09:44, 18 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
I don’t have a lot of experience with this. On the Navajo wiki, we elected our admins with only 3 votes (since we have only 4 people who vote there, including the 3 admins). But I do think you should conclude the consensus (5 votes for, 0 against). More importantly, do not edit the old request, create a new one. This may be a matter of who at Wikimedia considers the request ... while one steward might not understand the problems of the small wikis, a different steward might be more understanding. This is just my opinion. —Stephen (Talk) 20:23, 18 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Stephen! I already did what I should do :) Let's wait and see this time... Link here to my new request. Cheers,--វ័ណថារិទ្ធ (Vantharith) 12:33, 19 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

User boxes edit

Per WT:UBV user boxes are actually banned. Sorry about this, I'm sure you realize I'm going to delete them (or someone else will). Mglovesfun (talk) 17:47, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your notice! --វ័ណថារិទ្ធ (Vantharith) 06:49, 23 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

ការសម្ដែងនូវសេចក្ដីសរសើរ edit

Congratulations, you are now the sysop of the Khmer Wiktionary. This is effective for a period of 6 months. In 6 months, you will need to apply again (ខែវិច្ឆិកា). It should be much easier next time, since you will have a history there. —Stephen (Talk) 04:45, 21 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

អរគុណ Stephen ដែលបានជួយ! Thank you!--វ័ណថារិទ្ធ (Vantharith) 11:17, 7 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Is it possible for you to translate this, or to explain the general meaning to me? Thanks --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 03:44, 5 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
