ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ,

Thank you for the Kannada entries! Just a note: in the etymology section of some words, you've used the word "cognate" and referred to some Sanskrit words. Two words are cognates when they have the same origin; for instance Kannada ಮೀನು (mīnu) and Tamil மீன் (mīṉ) would be cognates as they both come from Proto-Dravidian *mīn. If a word in Kannada is borrowed from a Sanskrit word, use {{bor|kn|sa|}} instead. For instance, at ಚಿತ್ರ, the text should be: {{bor|kn|sa|चित्र}} (the Kannada word ಚಿತ್ರ comes from Sanskrit चित्र; it is not cognate with Sanskrit "chayanam").

As for formatting, you can copy-paste an already created entry and change all the relevant information for your current entry. Cheers! -- Bhagadatta (talk) 09:43, 13 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dravidian is not from Egyptian, and your Proto-Dravidian entries did not match revonstructions in scholarly sources. I have deleted all the entries you created. If you continue to add fringe material, you will be blocked. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 16:25, 21 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

-- Bhagadatta (talk) 11:00, 31 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Welcome message

Welcome

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Only after you have familiarised yourself with Wiktionary can you proceed with new edits. Now you will only clean up all of your poorly-formatted entries. Regards. inqilābī [inqilāb zindabād] 13:49, 5 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Bhagadatta, I think that this contributor needs to be temporarily blocked. Even after showing them useful links above, they are going on creating poorly-formatted (e.g., this) or even bad (e.g., this, this) entries & have not yet cleaned up their earlier edits. Even other editors have to fix their newly created entries (e.g., this). They are not providing spacings between headers, nor are they marking a reconstructed page using {{reconstructed}} (e.g., this). So, all entries created by them should be deleted, because such newbies must not be a headache to us. If you agree, AryamanA may be notified. Thanks! inqilābī [inqilāb zindabād] 17:13, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Inqilābī: I agree. I told them to copy-paste any existing entry and change up the relevant information while creating a new entry as that would at least prevent formatting mistakes but they paid no heed. I then forgot to follow up on this user's latest edits and their new entries went unnoticed as they weren't templated. It appears as if they're just copying entries from the Kannada Wiktionary. And oh, the reconstructed entries are a problem as well.
@AryamanA I regret to say this but I think a short block is the only way to get this editor's attention. -- Bhagadatta (talk) 17:24, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Bhagadatta, Inqilābī: Agreed, and it appears @Metaknowledge already blocked them so we're good on that. Will try to clean up some of their entries. —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 17:29, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Proto-Dravidian reconstructions

edit

Hi, I noticed your Reconstruction:Proto-Dravidian/-atsan entry doesn't agree with Krishnamurthy's reconstruction *aṇṇa from his book {{R:dra:DL}}. Could you please source your Proto-Dravidian reconstructions? Have a good day. Kritixilithos (talk) 15:10, 7 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
