These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

• Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing page for a similar word, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
• Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary, though it may be a bit technical and longwinded. The most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
• If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
• The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
• A glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.
• If you have anything to ask about or suggest, we have several discussion rooms. Feel free to ask any other editors in person if you have any problems or question, by posting a message on their talk page.

Wu pronunciation

@Suzukaze-c: Most often I use 上海话大词典 and think about how it sounds. For two-character words, it's usually not too surprising for it to be the two characters put together (word sandhi and not phrase sandhi, as WT:AZH/Wu describes it). But if you're asking about 合同 in particular, it's not in the dictionary; the Wu Chinese MiniDict and 吳語學堂 both give some hints, and 合唱 is in the dictionary. @Apisite: I haven't seen this list before, I'll keep it in mind. Could you tell me a bit more about it, like where the suspected pronunciations come from? ChromeGames923 (talk) 07:58, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

Standard in Taiwan

Hi, please note that the standard pronunciations of Taiwan are found in 國語字典 and 國語辭典簡編本, not 重編國語辭典修訂本. See 【音讀】Q4: 為何教育部各典對於同一字詞有取音不一致的情形？教學上應以哪一部辭典為依據？. RcAlex36 (talk) 09:48, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

@RcAlex36 Thanks for the comment, I appreciate the information. Usually cross-checking many different dictionaries helps, but 鑿 seems to get a bit messy. For pronunciation 2, Hanyu Da Cidian gives "mortise" and "tunnel" under zào but notes that "mortise" is modernly pronounced záo. Kroll's Student Dictionary lists "hole; mortise" under zuò but also gives a middle Chinese pronunciation of dzawH (missing on Wiktionary), which I believe suggests a modern reading of zào.

Then for pronunciation 3, to be an alternative form of 糳 would suggest a pronunciation of zuò, in line with middle Chinese tsak (HDC and Kroll agree here, but I don't see these senses in many other dictionaries). Meanwhile the pronunciation of 鑿鑿 as zuòzuò seems like it might be literary (it's what HDC and Kroll also have), but Cross-Strait Dictionary then says that zuòzuò is standard in Taiwan and záozáo is standard in Mainland (as opposed to 國語辭典簡編 which seems to give záozáo in Taiwan).

Your judgement is probably better than mine, but it feels a bit difficult to untangle the differences between these mainland, Taiwan, and literary pronunciations. Thanks, ChromeGames (talk) 10:26, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
