Welcome edit

Welcome edit

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Ultimateria (talk) 16:49, 26 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Use of Template:Suffix edit

Hello!

Please note Special:Diff/59460110. If you don't use nocat=1 the word will be categorized as a Latin one.Jonteemil (talk) 20:37, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Sources edit

Hey Enkyklios, when creating reconstructed entries, like Reconstruction:Proto-Indo-European/sewh₁-, could you please source the reconstruction and as many of the reconstructions on the pages as you can? C:Proto-Indo-European reference templates has a lot of easy to use PIE reference templates you can utilize. Thanks. --{{victar|talk}} 23:11, 17 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

We sent you an e-mail edit

Hello Enkyklios,

Really sorry for the inconvenience. This is a gentle note to request that you check your email. We sent you a message titled "The Community Insights survey is coming!". If you have questions, email surveys@wikimedia.org.

You can see my explanation here.

Use of Template:lb edit

Greetings. Sorry if I sound too stern here, but that template is only intended for definition lines. You should use Template:qualifier (or built-in parameters like |qual1= etc.) instead in sections like "Pronunciation". The reason for this is that lb is likely to incorrectly categorise the term in question; for example, in this revision of skib, the word was in the categories "Danish archaisms" and "Danish dialectal terms", both of which are false. The term "unofficial" edit

Hi, when going through some stuff I'm working on that contains Danish word entry data from here, I noticed that there were a lot of unusual "unofficial"-tags in there, and tried to figure out what was meant by "unofficial" exactly. When searching Wiktionary at large, however, it turned out it was basically just in Danish entries, and almost all that I checked where from edits by you. In the interest of clarity of meaning and to keep the terms used on Wiktionary mostly conforming to the Appendix:Glossary, which doesn't have "unofficial" as a term, I would suggest using some other term like "colloquial" or "informal". These terms are also a bit more descriptive, while "unofficial" seems a bit prescriptive in tone. Kristian-Clausal (talk) 09:42, 25 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the feedback. You're probably right, and I'll bear that in mind in the future. Enkyklios (talk) 09:54, 25 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

kogger edit

Hi,

Shouldn't the term kogger be a neuter per your own reference linked? Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 11:41, 7 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

You are perfectly right here. It is a neuter noun. Enkyklios (talk) 18:21, 7 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
