Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- How to edit a page is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
- Entry layout explained (ELE) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard, the easiest way to do this is to copy exactly an existing page for a similar word.
- Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words Wiktionary is interested in including. There is also a list of things that Wiktionary is not for a higher level overview.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide to Wikipedia users useful.
- The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
- We have discussion rooms in which you can ask any question about Wiktionary or its entries, a glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.

Mathematics
You wouldn't happen to be well versed in mathematics, would you? I've got a bunch of mathematical terms in English that I'm having trouble defining, and I was wondering if you're interested. - I have very limited mathematical experience, but I find that a lot of basic mathematical terms are lacking here. Some examples, if you want them (from various divisions of pre-university-level mathematics): curvilinear grid, system of equations, quad paper, SOHCAHTOA, θ-intercept, field axiom. --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 23:27, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
- Well, some of these are pretty self-descriptive terms — there is nothing about system of equations which you cannot find defined at system and equation, actually — on the other hand, these might be considered fixed phrases with translations that are likewise so. Translation fixing
I really like that script a lot! If it is bug-free enough, do you think it could be added to User:KassadBot's auto-formatting bot? It would be invaluable! —CodeCat 12:26, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
- Somewhat doubtful. First, the script is written in JavaScript — I do not know what KassadBot is written in, but I suspect something else entirely. Rewriting it in another language is nontrivial. Second, it's not really "bug-free enough" either — heuristics used by the script sometimes fail, resulting in template misapplication. Often it's enough to run the script and save the page, but just as often the script fails to parse a translation entry, or marks a qualifier as a transcription or vice versa, which is sometimes impossible to detect mechanically. So a human has to review the changes. But I encourage everyone to try it out (just click the install link and save the page). Keφr (talk) 12:39, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

- Well, it is already quite usable, but I do not promise any stability. I updated the description page. I am unsure if either British Petrol or Green Party will want my script. Keφr (talk) 13:06, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
- Do you think you can make it so that it automatically tries to apply fixes whenever it can, and then presents the user with a 'save' (or 'diff') button in the top left corner, like the translation editor does? That way, you wouldn't have to click 'fix' in each entry, only to find out that there is nothing to fix. You'd just be notified whenever there is something to fix. Much easier. :) —CodeCat 13:21, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
- It is doable. However, 1) The script currently restricts itself to a single section, and I am a bit afraid that running it on the whole page might mess things up; 2) I did not want it to put any unnecessary load on the servers — this kind of thing should be done once per page, if at all, so it's ridiculous to run it on every page load and 3) it is usually already relatively easy to spot where it needs to be run — just look for translation lists with entries without cross-edition links. Not perfect, but a good rule of thumb. By the way, my script tags generic "Chinese" entries as "zhx-zho" — is this acceptable? Keφr (talk) 14:44, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
- Not really, but all 'Chinese' translations need sorting into specific languages (usually Mandarin). So that part of the script isn't making things worse, it just isn't improving anything either. Mglovesfun (talk) 09:23, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

- Any changes would need to apply to
{{t}},{{t+}},{{t-}}and{{tø}}, and because they appear multiple times on a page, any changes have to be considered very seriously before implementation.
