Welcome edit

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Vininn126 (talk) 11:15, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Welcome edit

Hi there, great to see another Polish editor join the ranks! Just a quick tip, many Polish words have audio recordings which can be found here: search for 'konfiskata'. These can be added using the a= parameter of the {{pl-p}} template if when you're creating a new entry or you come across one that doesn't have an audio link already. Cheers, BigDom 07:46, 21 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

New entries edit

Glad to see someone adding quotations. I changed the formatting on some - used quote journal/book etc. You might wanna check these out - https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:Citation_templates. Also, on verbs, don't forget to mark them as transitive or intransitive. I went ahead and added the conjugation template for you on zawlec. Also I used the correct etymology template. Finally, if a verb starting with a consonant cluster gets prefixed, you have to spell out the syllables in the pl-p template, like on zawlec. Thanks again. @Vininn126: Wielki słownik języka polskiego lists alternate past and subjunctive forms (zawlekłem or zawlokłem, etc.) for each gender except the masculine personal plural of zawlec. How can these be added to the conjugation template? - LaetusStudiis (talk) 23:07, 22 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
We'd list two conjugation templates, see wlec. Vininn126 (talk) 23:23, 22 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you; I've added the second template to zawlec. - LaetusStudiis (talk) 23:28, 22 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Related vs Derived edit

Hey, just wanna say your contributions have been really top-notch. One small thing is that -ość verbs are derived from their respective adjectives, so you can enter them as "Derived terms" not related. Thanks! Vininn126 (talk) 19:04, 17 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Podróżować edit

The second meaning is "to dye pink a bit". Why would that have anything to do with "droga"? Did you check the word to make sure it made sense to remove? Vininn126 (talk) 06:58, 7 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

A few pointers edit

1) give a white space between the headword and first definition 2) Imperfectives are 99% of the time suffixed with -ać, or at least by surface analysis are. Careful not to confused it with -wać, however. 3) Audio files can be found on the commons.

Keep it up! Vininn126 (talk) 16:59, 16 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Great work edit

I also told another new editor, but you're doing a great job. Just take a little caution with Doroszewski - sometimes he has weird, unattestable stuff (not that I've seen you add any, and you cite basically everything). Keep it up! Vininn126 (talk) 17:02, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

!!11.....,,, edit

are you a noob? because I didn't have to correct anything in your recent entries - sussy........................... Shumkichi (talk) 21:06, 2 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

pobielić edit

Hi there. I just added the audio to this entry, but then I later saw your edit summary about it sounding like pomielić. I can sort of see what you mean although I think it's probably fine myself. @Vininn126, Shumkichi, Hergilei what do you guys think? BigDom 05:38, 7 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

It's really quite on the line. We could ask @Olaf to rerecord it. Vininn126 (talk) 07:10, 7 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Fixed. Olaf (talk) 20:59, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Olaf Thanks! Vininn126 (talk) 21:00, 26 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Definition lines edit

Hey, you should check out the Wiktionary style guide. You really should stop giving those lengthy, sentence like definitions. Those are glosses. You should give shorter definition lines, a few words tops. Vininn126 (talk) 07:58, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Also completely unrelated, do not forget to put four -'s between L2's. That's very important. Vininn126 (talk) 08:01, 14 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Quoting edit

It's a good thing you're adding quotations. I just wanted to make sure you're aware of Quiet Quinton, a gadget that pulls and formats quotes from G-books. If you didn't know, it should make your life a lot easier. Vininn126 (talk) 21:21, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Where can I find this? Searching for it, either on Wiktionary or in Google, doesn't find anything besides a few mentions of it. - LaetusStudiis (talk) 21:26, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Go to "preferences" at the top by your username, then check "gadgets". Vininn126 (talk) 21:36, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Collocaitons edit

I wanted to do this in the edit mentioned cause it's so small but my fat fingers hit enter before I wanted. Collocations should not be full sentences and instead use base forms when possible. Usex's on the other hand will be full sentences. Vininn126 (talk) 08:53, 27 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Doroszewski quotes edit

Heads up, I'm about to make your life a lot easier. I'm working on a big project where you'll be able to use the same abbreviations of quotes from other dictionaries, namely Doroszewski's, Linde's, and SXVI and SXVII, so you can continue to add them as normal for now. Also, if you want you can improve any of the future template with more information. Vininn126 (talk) 18:24, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Update, his abbreviations are added. Check sprawa for an example. Vininn126 (talk) 15:33, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

"The Cathedral" edit

You added "working against the interests of the nation or people" under Etymology 3 of "The Cathedral", I think in fact, they hate the Cathedral because it acts in the *interests* of the rabble, and they generally seem to think "the nation" should be broken up into tech monarchist city states. The definition is already too long anyway, so is it alright with you if we replace "and working against the interests..." with just "and therefore harmful", as in, it's leftist and therefore bad for "order" and "culture" and so on.
