editCarpathian Rusyn, together with Russian, Belorussian and Ukrainian forms the East Slavic subgroup of the Slavic sub-branch of the Indo-European language family.
It should not be confused with Pannonian Rusyn, which is a language of the West Slavic subgroup of the Slavic languages, although the two languages share many similarities.
Orthography
editThe current orthography of Latvian words follows the Ukrainian standard alphabet (adopted in its present form after World War II), which consists of 33 letters:

Before World War II, there were an extra letter, Ѣ/ѣ, no longer in use, but still found in older books.
