coronavirus n

(virology) A member of the family Coronaviridae, comprising viruses which infect animals and human beings, and the genome of which consists of a single strand of RNA. An outbreak of a viral infection which started in Wuhan in Hubei, China, in December 2019 is currently active. It is caused by a novel coronavirus designated as 2019-nCoV.
