The expression requires a qualifier for sens, either même referring to the last mentioned opinion, a different determiner such as ce, or a complement introduced by de.
This expression should not be confused with to abound in one's own sense, which usually means "to follow one's own judgement". In particular the French expression is rare in that form, and amounts to something like "to be obstinate in one's opinion" when used.
