Etymology

Compound rot (“rotten”) +‎ zak (“scrotum, bag”). Reportedly (WNT, De Vries) a bahuvrihi meaning “a syphilitic”. Syphilis was also known as the French disease, explaining why it became a slur for French and Walloon people.
