Etymology

From Malay rumah sakit, compound of rumah (“house”) +‎ sakit (“sick”), calque of Dutch ziekenhuis (“hospital”, literally “sick house”). Displaced Dutch loanword hospital as was frequently used in Batavian newspapers in the 1920s.
