shtyllë
Albanian
editEtymology
editFrom Proto-Albanian *stūlā- or *stūlwā-, from Proto-Indo-European *stuh₂-l-eh₂ < *steh₂- (“to stand up”). Compare Ancient Greek στῦλος (stûlos),[1] Proto-Slavic *stъlbъ (“post, pillar”). Alternatively from Byzantine Greek στῦλος (stûlos)[2] or from Latin stilus (“stake, spike”) (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?).
