Greek edit

Etymology edit

From Byzantine Greek διαβάζω (diabázō), simplification of Ancient Greek διαβιβάζω (diabibázō, to transmit, to send on). By surface analysis, δια- (through) +‎ βιβάζω (cause to mount), βιβάζω being the causative of βαίνω (baínō, to go). Cognate with Mariupol Greek дъавазу (ðavazu).

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): /ðʝaˈvazo/
  • Hyphenation: δια‧βά‧ζω
