Inherited from Koine Greek παρακαλῶ (parakalô, beseech, entreat), ancient sense: "invite", contracted form of Ancient Greek παρακαλέω (parakaléō). By surface analysis, παρα- (para-) +‎ καλώ (kaló, call).
