editInherited from Koine Greek παρακαλῶ (parakalô, “beseech, entreat”), ancient sense: "invite", contracted form of Ancient Greek παρακαλέω (parakaléō). By surface analysis, παρα- (para-) + καλώ (kaló, “call”).
